Who is concerned
On the web side, the EAA covers in particular online shops, consumer banking, passenger transport (websites, apps, e-tickets), e-books and communication services. Microenterprises, with fewer than 10 people and no more than 2 million euros in turnover or balance sheet, are exempt for their services.
In Switzerland, the Disability Equality Act already applies to federal authorities. Its revision, sent to Parliament in December 2024, would extend it to private service providers. In both cases, the technical target is the same: WCAG 2.1, level AA.
What the audit includes
Automated tests
A first tool-based pass on your key pages, to catch common errors quickly.
Manual checks
Keyboard only, screen reader, zoom, contrast, forms, images and documents.
Prioritised report
Each issue linked to a WCAG criterion, with its severity, the page and the proposed fix.
Accessibility statement
The page that states what complies, what does not yet, and how to report a problem.
Why a score of 100 is not enough
Automated tools only detect part of the problems. They cannot tell whether an alternative text really describes the image, or whether a form can be completed with the keyboard all the way through. That is why the audit combines tools with checks made by a person.
How it works
We choose the key pages together: home, form, checkout or donation, key documents.
Tools first, then manual checks on desktop and on phone.
Issues ranked by severity, with what to fix first.
I fix with your teams or your provider, then run the tests again.
On the sites I build
Accessibility is checked before every launch, on desktop and on phone. This site scores 100 for accessibility on Lighthouse mobile: a good starting point, which the audit completes with manual checks.
Frequently asked questions
Is my company concerned?
If you offer a covered service to consumers in the EU and you are not a microenterprise, very probably. We check it together in the first conversation.
What is the risk?
Penalties are set by each EU country and vary from one to another. The most common risk is still losing customers who cannot use your site.
Do we need to rebuild the whole site?
Rarely. Most problems can be fixed in a targeted way: contrast, form labels, alternative text, keyboard navigation.
Is it a certification?
No. It is an audit against WCAG 2.1 AA and EN 301 549, with a report and a fix plan. It lets you write an honest accessibility statement.
